If you care about this sort of thing, you’ve probably seen a bunch of articles about it in the last few weeks (and the idea that one spoiled and rich white girl who made a TV show with all her other spoiled and rich white girl friends is what spurred this on boggles my mind) so I won’t bother linking to any of them.
What makes people want to ascribe a specific label to this “trend” is the fact that it’s being perpetrated by well-to-do and overly educated individuals who SHOULD know better…but don’t because they’ve spent their lives in neighborhoods devoid of people of color, gone to schools devoid of people of color and have been fed a white-washed view of the world by the media, one where people of color are only maids/cab drivers/magic advice givers.
There is no such thing as hipster racism. This “trend” is just America failing to come to grips with the fact that the generation it assumed would grow up and magically not be racist despite no real efforts to educate them about race has, shockingly, grown up to racist.
Racism won’t go away until every white parent sits their children down and tells them not be fucking racist.

@Nosalikes and I (@katebomz) are working on producing a Documentary series project which aims to change perceptions of the continent, by diminishing the image of a continent in need of salvation, but rather showing a place full of opportunity and potential waiting to be realized. The show will cover 13 African cities, and will help to highlight the uniqueness of each city, giving the world a better understanding of the wonderful diversity within the continent.
I would love ALL your support on this, getting word out on it, and of course coming to our kickstarter launch event to learn more about the project. So lets get on RT..Reblog, Instagram, Facebook, Tumble, this, that..all the above!
I hope to see you all there.
